GRAPHICS

I began the disclosure of my artistic ontogenesis with my excitement in linocut from primary-school days on. It is necessary to point out that graphic art today represents a somewhat different feature of creation, it is in a way my extension of painting. It serves as a counterpoise to the eruptive gestures in oil on canvas. With it I sublimate both contemporary colourfulness and wildness. I stay within the boundaries of classic techniques for the purposes of principle. The method of direct drawing onto the matrix instead of on the drawing transfer enables explicit, straightforward strokes. The direct drawing is then carved in an expressive and tempestuous manner. The frankness of the classic black-and-white graphic expression is self-explanatory in the discreet low number of prints. Linocuts are otherwise a part of my broader concept of actual painting by a model, although the model is of inferior relevance in my graphics. Most attention is dedicated to the graphic field itself, thus making the graphic facet much more monotipian as well as placing the technical procedures far away from the limelight of this artistic expression. In spite of this, the utmost sprightliness of the carving gestures is more than obvious with its' mainly black scenes and white backgrounds – the carvings flow mostly around many axis of the spinning matrix, following the silhouettes of the »portrayees« but almost never creating directional or cross-hatch lines. At the end, the graphics strive towards becoming graphic images. Their motif, structure and look resemble miniature canvases in black-and-white uniqueness. The process of their creation and printing enriches my entity as an artist and navigate me from explosive creativity to forethoughtfulness.
