MANDALIC

The emerging cycle of mandala oil paintings on canvas represents a new departure, a new interval on his creative path. The painter constructs his mandala and mandala-like forms in a rectangular format, where the starting circle is not in the centre and is not placed symmetrically, but is only hinted at. He is not imitating the classical symbolism of the mandalas, since in his paintings he is attempting to introduce merely a detailed functioning figuralism and abstraction, so that his paintings might preserve and retain substantive views instead of sliding observations. With wide brush strokes on the margins and fine applications in the centre of the painting, the artist communicates to the viewer an energetic gesticulation of the motif. Konec's mandala oils are not like colouring books that follow the ancient tradition, but are merely similar to mandalas and are similar in terms of functioning figural or abstract paintigs as a level and consequence of the compositional biography of the painter's work.
